1. Introduction
Welcome to SplitTracking. These Terms of Service and Privacy Policy govern your use of our mobile and web platforms. By accessing or using our services, you agree to the collection, use, and disclosure of information in accordance with this policy. SplitTracking provides a modern suite of collaborative financial management tools including multi-currency group bill splitting, personal expense tracking, digital Chitti (Chit Fund) management, Khata (Digital Ledger) tracking with interest calculations, recurring Routine Checklists.
2. Information We Collect
- Identity & Account Data: Full name, email address, phone number, and avatar image provided during registration or OAuth sign-in.
- Financial & Transaction Records: Group expenses, split ratios, individual transaction logs, Khata credit/debit balances, interest rates, and Chitti auction bidding history. We never collect or store sensitive banking PINs or raw credit card numbers.
- Technical & Diagnostic Data: Device model, operating system version, crash diagnostics, and non-identifying interaction metrics to maintain app stability and performance.
- Media & Receipts: Images of expense receipts and payment QR codes uploaded by you for OCR parsing, bill verification, and payment routing.
- Routine & Task Data: Recurring bills, due dates, reminder frequencies, and completion logs across personal and shared boards.
3. Device Permissions & Sensitive Data Rationale
To provide core features, Split Tracking requests specific device permissions. We adhere to the principle of least privilege—permissions are requested only when needed, and we never collect sensitive data in the background without explicit user action.
Friend & Member Invites
Contacts (READ_CONTACTS): Split Tracking accesses your device contacts solely when you open the contact picker to quickly select members for group expenses, invite friends, or designate Khata counterparties without manual typing. We do not harvest, upload, or sync your entire address book to our servers, and we never share or sell contact data to third parties.
Expense Geotagging & Map
Location (ACCESS_FINE_LOCATION & ACCESS_COARSE_LOCATION): Split Tracking accesses your location only in the foreground when you explicitly tap 'Current Location' to geotag an expense venue, display your spend history on the interactive Map Tracker, or find nearby merchants. We do NOT use background location, and we never track your movement when the app is closed.
Receipt OCR & QR Scanning
Camera & Photo Library: Used to capture receipt photos for automatic OCR expense extraction, upload payment QR codes, and set user or group profile avatars. Access occurs strictly upon your direct selection.
Transactional & Settlement Alerts
Push Notifications (POST_NOTIFICATIONS): Used strictly for transactional and functional alerts—such as new expense notifications, bill settlement confirmations, reminder alerts, and Chitti cycle updates. You can disable notifications at any time in system settings.
4. How We Use Your Data
- To compute mathematical split balances, optimize debt settlements with minimum transactions, and calculate accurate interest on Khata ledgers.
- To administer transparent Chit Fund cycles, including contribution tracking, live bidding, and automated dividend distribution among verified group members.
- To schedule recurring checklist reminders and notify you of upcoming bill payments and routine commitments.
- To authenticate sessions, prevent fraudulent activity, safeguard cryptographic tokens, and maintain the integrity of shared financial books.
5. Feature-Specific Disclosures
Groups & Settlements
Settlement algorithms optimize payment paths between members; users perform actual peer-to-peer money transfers via their external preferred payment apps (UPI, bank transfer).
Checklists & Routines
Routine Board data is synchronized between authorized group members to coordinate recurring bill tasks.
Khata (Digital Ledger)
Ledger records remain private between you and your counterparty; interest is calculated based on user-chosen transparent formulas (flat rate, monthly simple interest, or percentage).
Chitti (Savings Funds)
Chitti bidding and payment statuses are transparently visible to members of that specific Chitti group to ensure mutual trust and accountability.
Geospatial & Referrals
Geospatial tracking is optional; venue location tags are stored with expense records only upon your explicit request.
Referral invitations and reward points are tracked to credit referral coins to your profile.
6. Data Retention & Account Deletion Policy
You have the right to permanently delete your account and all associated personal data at any time. Account deletion can be performed directly within the mobile app (Profile Settings > Security > Delete Account) or requested online via our dedicated Account Deletion page at splittracking.com/delete-account. Upon receiving a deletion request, your authentication credentials, personal profile, payment details, and uploaded receipt images are permanently and irreversibly purged from our servers within 30 days. Anonymized transaction records within shared groups where other members remain active are retained solely to preserve the mathematical integrity of historical group balances.
7. Your Rights & Data Sovereignty
In accordance with global privacy regulations including GDPR, CCPA, and Google Play User Data policies, you hold the right to access, inspect, export, or permanently erase your personal information. You can also revoke runtime device permissions (such as Contacts, Location, or Microphone) at any time through your device operating system settings.
